Personal Development is a word that is crossing many peoples lips these days,

but what exactly is it and what does it cover..?

Personal Development, when you really break it down is all about furthering yourself, investing in your own growth. This is actually something that we have all be doing for all of our lives. In its basic form Personal Development is really just education for, and about ourselves.

So our introduction to Personal Development was really our first day in school. Some of our lessons have been structured, some of it not so structured.

We could break our school lessons into two different fields.

Personal and Professional Development. Any lessons that were applicable to succeeding in our working life, formed our Professional Development.

Religious/Spiritual studies, school rules, were forms of Personal Development, teaching us how to get the most out of our lives and how to treat ourselves and other people.

However, if we’re talking about the modern Personal Development industry then it is focus is more on understanding who we really are, finding our true potential and living a life filled with more passion and joy.

Competition today is higher than it has ever been, there are more people vying for the same job and looking for the next promotion. In the past getting the edge on those around you was a simple case of being more skilled in a certain area.

Back then, knowledge was power. With the advent of the internet and easy access to knowledge, power is now the application of knowledge. And so the new “edge” is having personal power, confidence and leadership skills.

One of the interesting side effects of striving to be better than the next guy is that we discovered more about ourselves, and that to be truly successful we are far better off to “follow our bliss.”

This is the opposite of the previous ideas of just aiming to beat the people around you. If you focus on what brings you joy and what you are good at then success will surely follow.

The majority of the most successful people in the world, and I’m talking about those that are successful in health, relationship and finances, have all followed their passions. They aren’t necessarily smarter or better educated than the next guy.

To me this is what the Personal Development is really all about.
